Hi,

I trying to find out the area of a steel cable to therefore move onto to finding its stress value.

The diameter of the cable 11.78mm.

Could someone please check my calculations please.

11.78 divided by 2 = 5.89

5.89 squared x 3.14 (pi) = 108.98

Is this the correct way to work out the area of steel cable 11.78mm in diameter.

Yes. And the unit is mm^2. Units are important (as you will discover if/when you calculate the wrong answer for the strain).
