Use the principle of conservation of energy.
- Heat lost = Heat gained.
Solve for T_i, the initial temperature of water.
If a significant amount of heat flows from the object to the thermometer, the temp will change. A thermometer has a mass of 31.0g, specific heat capacity of c=815J/(kg.C), and temp of 12.0C. It is immersed in 119g of water, and final temp of water and thermometer is 41.5C. What was the temp of the water before the insertion of the thermometer?
I have no clue where to begin, can someone help me start off please.
