Thread: Youngs modulus E

Hi,
I need to calculate youngs modulus E from the stress v strain graph.I know its stress divided by strain but were do I read the values from.Is it the lower stress levels of the elastic zone or the upper? ie 50/0.5 or 325/1.1 =E

The Young's Modulus computation must occur in a region that obeys Hooke's Law: f = - k x. On the stress/strain curve, this is always the initial linear region. According to your chart, then, you must graphically compute the slope of the stress/strain curve in that initial steep linear region.
