    root fraction

    hi this is my question:

    $\displaystyle \frac{7}{14 root 2}$.

    would the answer be $\displaystyle \frac{7 root 2}{14 root 2}$.

    If your question asks you to rationalise the denominator, then you multiply by $\displaystyle \frac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}} $.

    $\displaystyle \frac{7}{4\sqrt{2}} = \frac{7}{4\sqrt{2}} \times \frac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}} = \frac{7\sqrt{2}}{4 \times \sqrt{2}^2} $

    $ does not = $\displaystyle
    \frac{14\sqrt{2}}{14\sqrt{2}}

    No.

    This?:
    $\displaystyle
    \frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}}
    $

    reduce the 7/14 values
    $\displaystyle
    \frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}} = \frac{1}{2\sqrt{2}} $


    $\displaystyle \frac{1}{2\sqrt{2}} \times \frac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}} \,\,= \,\,\frac{1\sqrt{2}}{2 \times (\sqrt{2})^2} \,\,=\,\, \frac{\sqrt{2}}{4}
    $
