If your question asks you to rationalise the denominator, then you multiply by $\frac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}}$.

$\frac{7}{4\sqrt{2}} = \frac{7}{4\sqrt{2}} \times \frac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}} = \frac{7\sqrt{2}}{4 \times \sqrt{2}^2}$

my question is to rationalise

$\frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}}$

am i right in thinking that i do...

$\frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}}$ = $\frac{14\sqrt{2}}{14\sqrt{2}}$= ?

$
\frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}}
$
does not = $
\frac{14\sqrt{2}}{14\sqrt{2}}
$

No.

This?:
$
\frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}}
$

reduce the 7/14 values
$
\frac{7}{14\sqrt{2}} = \frac{1}{2\sqrt{2}}$

$\frac{1}{2\sqrt{2}} \times \frac{\sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}} \,\,= \,\,\frac{1\sqrt{2}}{2 \times (\sqrt{2})^2} \,\,=\,\, \frac{\sqrt{2}}{4}
$

.typos are a real pain.
