Equilibrium and Gravity problem #4
On 20th November 2008 a meteor was seen streaking over Edmonton and impacted somewhere near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. How fast was the meteor travelling when it hit the ground if, when it was passing the moon's orbit (which has a radius of 384,400 km), it had a velocity of 5.8 km/s? You may neglect the (substantial!) effects of air resistance. [Mass Earth = 5.97×1024 kg; Radius Earth = 6,360 km, G=6.673×10-11 m3kg-1s-2]
[Specify units of 'km/s' or 'm/s' in your answer.]
