Thread: Find age of son, have values for granny and mammy

mothers age is 10 times her sons(ken),
kens granny is ^2 of his age
the granny is 24 years older than kens mammy find kens age
ken=x granny=x^2 mammy=x^2-24

so find age of ken

X x 10=X^2 - 24
24 + 10=X^2-X^2
X^2 - 10X -24=0

could someone tell me if this is correct please...

x^2-10x-24=0
x^2-12x +2x-24=0
x(x-12)+2(x-12)=0
(x+2)(x-12)
x=-2 x=12
12-2=10 so kens age is 10??

you are correct to find that x=-2 or x=12

so Ken's age will be one of them . Since age cant be negative , can it ??

so ken would be 12 years old .
