    Tension in a conical pendulum

    A conical pendulum as shown is made to rotate at a constant speed of omega rad/s. The value of omega is given below. Compute the tension (in N) in the chord if the length of the chord L is 1 m and the bob mass, m, is 0.5 kg.

    N[RPM] = 768;

    \theta = angle the conical pendulum makes w/ the vertical

    r = L\sin{\theta}

    mg = T\cos{\theta}

    F_c = T\sin{\theta} = mr\omega^2

    using the three equations above, solve for \theta and T
