I'm confused, whats steps do I take to correct this problem??? How do you go about solving it? Where did I go wrong?

Hello,

multiply first, add later:

$5-4\sqrt{3 \cdot 7-5}$
$5-4\sqrt{16}$
$5-4 \cdot 4$
$5-4 \cdot 4=-11$

I hate questions like these...brackets should ALWAYS be used!

$5-4\sqrt(3*7-5)=5-(4*\sqrt(16))$

You see, its actually -4 MULTIPLIED by the squareroot not (5-4) multiplied by the square root.

In the end you get...

$5-(4*4)=5-16=-11$
