Word problem's help?
Question #1: As a social worker, you must tally your client base each month. You find that you are working with 40 families, of which 30% are single-parent house holds. with the rest being two-parent families. The average number of children for all the families is 2.6, What is the total number of men, women, and children in your client base?

Question #2: Suppose that your checking account pays 1/4% monthly interest on your balance, and your credit card charges 1.5% monthly interest on the amount that you owe. How much money will you gain or lose if your checking account balance is \$900 and you owe \$200 on your credit card?

Is the answer to question #2 (895)?

There is insufficient information to answer this question because you do
not know the ratio of male to female parents in the one parent house holds.

For that matter, in this day-and-age you don't know it for the two parent
households either.

But lets make the socialy conventional assumption that the single parent
households have a female adult, and the two parent households have one

There are 12 (40*0.3) single parent households = 12 female adults
There are 28 (40-12) two parent households = 28 female and 28 male adults.

So there are 40 female and 28 male adults and 40*2.6=104 children in the
client base, a total of 172.

Interest on checking account=0.0025*900=2.25
Interest of credid card=0.015*200=3

So your net gain is:2.25-3.00=-0.75 dollars, which is a loss of 75 cents.
