    Courses for Proofs

    I am just curious:

What college courses teach pure math prove concepts?

I know, for example, that geometric proofs, are taught in high school using the famous statement vs. reason charts.

However, what is the name of the course(s) that teach trigonometry, algebra, calculus prove questions?

    algebra
Yes, one of the things I know very well. It is called Abstract Algebra it focuses on general algebra stucture (that means where you can add multiply...).

    calculus prove questions?
No. But there is a more mathematical course in calculus. Called "Analysis", it is exactly like Calculus except this one has many proofs in it.

    ok

    Thanks for your reply.

If I ever take an algebra proof course, I'll be sure to look for you.

Trig is just high school stuff, huh?

Trig may be be very easy for some people but there are thousands of students who fear the name trigonometry. Did you know that?

    Thanks.

I know of no course that teaches techniques of proof independently of
the subject matter of some sub-field of maths.

However there are seveal books which all seem to be entitled "How to Prove/Solve it"
that do try to indicate general methods of proof or mathematical problem solving.
The most famous is by George Polya (How to Solve It), but there is also one by
Daniel Velleman (How to Prove It).
