Thread: Mathematica 8 plotting function 1/x bug??

Hi, i just needed quick look at the graph of 1/x for the interval [0,10] and i fired up mathematica 8 to draw it and this is what i get, wierd:



What you guys have to say about that, since 1/x have no solution this is wrong plot for it and 1/x never can get negative value, hmm , drawing it on the interval [-10, 10] it plots it right but not on [0,10] , or am i doing mistake somewhere, im sure not!..

Your horizontal axis is not at y=0, but at y=0.2. To get the kind of graph you want, try including the PlotRange command thus:

Plot[f[x],{x,0,10},PlotRange->{0,1.2}]

In general, your usage looks like this: PlotRange->{ymin, ymax}.

See if that does what you want.

ohh thanks man, i didnt know mathematica is taking the min and max values of the function to plot a graph but now is clear to me and is fine with the PlotRange parameter , close thread! =B
