    Fish Story

    Hi Guys,
    I am new to this site.. I have always liked math, just wished I was smarter and knew more..
    Anyway a buddy of mine asked me the following; A Fish Head is 4 inches.. Tail of Fish is Fish Head + .5 of Fish Body..
    Fish Body is Fish Head + Fish Tail. How long is Fish??

    Back in the day I knew how to set up 2 equations to solve for 2 unknowns, but not today.. Ha Ha.. I did set this problem up in 3 equations..
    1- Head = 4, 2- Body = Head (4) + Tail, 3- Tail = Head (4) + .5 Body..

    Now instead of solving the 2 quadratic (I think) equations, I just punched in numbers until both equations were equal..
    2- Body (16) = Head (4) + Tail (12) 3- Tail (12) = Head (4) + .5 Body (16)
    So if I add the Head (4) + Body (16) + Tail (12) and get 32 , Length of Fish is 32 inches.. Is this correct?? And how do I solve for the answer correctly??
    Thx. WG

    Re: Fish Story

    I like that.

    I did
    Head = 4
    Body = x = 4+y
    Tail = y = 4 + x/2

    x= 4+4+x/2
    2x = 16+x
    x = 16

    y = 4 + 16/2
    y = 12

    Body is 4+16+12 = 32
