Thread: magic square

HI
I need some help.
In a square 3 x 3 using the numbers 1 to 9 once only put the numbers so that:
the numbers on the top row minus the numbers in the 2nd row = the numbers on the 3rd row.

trying this for about 4 hrs and am always 1 number out..thanks in advance

It might not even be possible (or do you know for sure that it is?)

Yes, my brute-force computer program shows that this is not possible.

really???..this was homework set by our teacher!!!..maybe he forgot to tell us something!!! cannot beleive it!!

Definitely no solution...
Unless he means:

459 - 173 = 286

BUT there's 336 solutions of that style!
