Can you split 34 parts into two parts such that 4/7 of one of the parts equals 2/5 of the other.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by parts... but from how I interpret it I would set up the following equations

$x+y=34$

$
\frac{4}{7}x=\frac{2}{5}y
$

Can you solve that?
