Suppose five volumes of books, each volume containing 200 pages, is lined up in normal, uniform order on a shelf. How many pages are there from the front cover of the first volume to the back cover of the last volume?

When counting the pages from the front cover of the first volume to the backcover of the last volume, you are discarding the first 200 pages and the last 200 pages, and thus there are 600 pages.
