How does one get the modulus sign for an equation like this

I copied and pasted that as an example, where do you get the vertical slashes?

You can type [tex]\left| {x - 2} \right|[/tex]

It depends on the keyboard you're using... To get "|" I type Alt + Shift + l. (the last symbol is the letter L)

If there is no key on your keyboard with the symbol "|" you can use \vert and \Vert :

• \vert x-2 \vert gives
• \Vert e_k \Vert gives
