Numbers or letters with vertical bars
How can I type the R which indicates real or the C that indicates integers?
I want to the same with numbers and type a 1 with a vertical bar. How can I do this?

Wrap the letter with \mathbb{}
Note that this works with capital letters only :
$\mathbb{ABCD}\mathbb{EFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ}$

For the 1, I bet you want to use it for the indicator function... I don't think there is a simple command with it. But use \bold{1} (bolded) and we'll understand you :D

http://www.statslab.cam.ac.uk/~elie/ext/tex/ look "Example Code with Overlaps". But I cannot open the file due to problems of mine.

Code:

`\mathbb R,\ \mathbb C,\ \mathbb{STRING}`
gives

$\mathbb R,\ \mathbb C,\ \mathbb{STRING}$

I am not really sure about the numerals.

You type in LaTeX code.
[tex]\mathbb{R}[/tex] gives $\mathbb{R}$.
[tex]\mathbb{C}[/tex] gives $\mathbb{C}$.
[tex]\mathbb{Q}[/tex] gives $\mathbb{Q}$.
[tex]\mathbb{Z}[/tex] gives $\mathbb{Z}$.
