# Math Help - texnic centre problem

1. ## texnic centre problem

Hi
I just installed miktex 2.7 and texnic center, but when i try to write and then build the file to see the output it gives me the error "file name.tex" not found.
it gives me always the same error, no matter what is typed in.
is an installation problem?
what should i do about it?

or is it due to Vista?
thanks

2. When you've already installed MikTeX and following up on this, TeXNicCenter, then TeXNic will ask you to find the full path of MikTeX distribution, did you locate it?

Besides, when writing a document, a basic preamble is needed, do you have it?

It's unlikely to be a Vista problem, I have TeXnic center running on a Vista machine and it seems OK, not that I use it much.

Do you have the file in the editor? Has it been saved?

I don't remember what I had to do when I installed TeXNic C, but does it not just work if MikTeX is installed in the default location/s?

5. It doesn't.

When I started to use TeXNic, then after install it, I first installed full MikTeX distribution (on my disc C), then when running TeXNic this one asked to me to locate full path of MikTeX distribution.

yes. it is all ok with the full path of the distribution, i set that up right at the beginning. And i also wrote the body correctly, with preamble and everything, I even copied and paste my supervisors latex file, which gives me no error in my other computer. I copied another file that i wrote which runs fine in the other computer. but it gives me always the same error "file'name.tex' "not found. I need to use beamer for a presentation on wednesday and i`m lost!

Hey

I think your problem comes from the fact that you haven't previously saved your tek document. You need to save it before compiling it otherwise the editor won't be able to find it.
