using LaTeX, type $$\frac{\,dy}{\,dx}$$ to get $\frac{\,dy}{\,dx}$, $$\frac{d^2y}{\,dx^2}$$ to get $\frac{d^2y}{\,dx^2}$, and $$\theta$$ to get $\theta$. However, I prefer $$\vartheta$$ to get $\vartheta$ :D

You can find more tutorials and the such in the LaTeX Help part of the forums.

Furthermore:

$$\dot{x}$$ gives $\dot{x}$

$$\ddot{x}$$ gives $\ddot{x}$
