Latex doesn't work and you want to write a formula ?
Hi,

Go to this site : LaTeX
it's in french, but all you gotta do is to type the formula (without the math tags (Rofl)) and click on "Afficher", which means "display"

Be careful to copy the code if you need it for later because most of the time you can't get it back.

After that, you'll get a picture and 2 links (in bold) below.

The first link is the link of the image, and the second one is the bbcode. (I'm saying this because it's in French, not because I think you're dumb ! xD)

P.S. : note that some of the common code you know here won't work, for example "\tfrac" "\implies" ... :)

Thanks a lot Moo! This should do until LaTeX package is fixed :D
EDIT:
Actually, I could use this for more than just forums. Moo, I love you! :D

Okay, here's another quickway to get LaTeX, but this is for web designers, I don't think it will work here ...

Stick this:

Quote:

<
img src="http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/mimetex.cgi?some LaTeX code" border="0" align="absmiddle" />

If you're really feeling brave, download the source code, compile the c program and install it on your website.

(Apologies if the formatting's screwy, I haven't sussed out how to insert verbatim text in here yet.)

Okey, so there is a problem with the latex engine on this site? It has been driving me nuts as I've tried to post some problems...

Moo, your efforts are admirable, but I can not get that LaTex link to work for nothing. All my fractions end up convoluted. (Headbang)
I am typing it the same way I do on MHF and it comes out all mixed up.

:eek:

Don't misunderstand ! I didn't do the code of this website !!!! I'm really bad at programming ! (domain is .be, which is Belgium ^^)

I had problems with fractions too, if you want to type \frac{\pi}{8} \cdot \ln(2) it won't work and give some error... so if you type \ln(2) \cdot \frac{\pi}{8} and then +, -, etc... it will work.

Thank you, but I am not going to mess with it. I will just wait until it's fixed here. Hopefully, that'll be soon.

Here's a site like Moo's, but its in english. :p

LaTeX

I wasn't able to use \iint on the french site, so I googled online latex converters and found this one.

However, when you input your code, you will need this [otherwise, it won't compile the code]:

Code:

\documentclass[12pt]{article} \pagestyle{empty} \usepackage{amssymb,amsmath} \begin{document} $[code goes here]$ \end{document}
For example,

Code:

\documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage{amssymb,amsmath} \pagestyle{empty} \begin{document} $\nabla ^2 = \frac{1} {{r^2 }}\frac{\partial } {{\partial r}}(r^2 \frac{\partial } {{\partial r}}) + \frac{1} {{r^2 \sin \vartheta }}\frac{\partial } {{\partial \vartheta }}(\sin \vartheta \frac{\partial } {{\partial \vartheta }}) + \frac{1} {{r^2 \sin ^2 \vartheta }}\frac{{\partial ^2 }} {{\partial \phi ^2 }}$ \end{document}
outputs

If you have mathtype, you can life a little easier. Type your equations there, and make sure when you copy it, it copies the latex code! [to get this to happen, go to Preferences-->Translators... Now select Translation to other languages (text) and in the scroll down [translator] box, select TeX--AMS-LaTex. Leave the two boxes at the bottom unchecked. Then click Ok].

Also, when you go to compile the code, be sure to check the box that says Create URLs for the created image and the LaTex source. Using this option will save the image and the source permanently on the server.

EDIT: Here's another example:

Code:

\documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage{amssymb,amsmath} \pagestyle{empty} \begin{document} $\iint\limits_R {f\left( {x,y} \right)dA_{xy} } = \iint \limits_S {f\left( {x\left( {u,v} \right),y\left( {u,v} \right)} \right)\left| {\frac{{\partial \left( {x,y} \right)}} {{\partial \left( {u,v} \right)}}} \right|dA_{uv} }$ \end{document}
outputs

Latex doesn't work? $\ln (x)$. For me it does.

its working again??

$
\oint_C {{\mathbf{F}} \cdot {\mathbf{T}}\,ds} = \iint\limits_\sigma {\left( {{\text{curl}}\,{\mathbf{F}}} \right) \cdot {\mathbf{n}}\,dS}
$

$\iint\limits_R\ln(xy)\,dA$

$x^2+5x-4$

not anymore... (Wondering)

I wasn't here during the last days, but I never had a problem with Latex. $\sin (x)$.

hmm..maybe it just works for the elementary functions?

$\sin(x)$

$\cosh^{-1}(x)$

$\ln\left(\frac{1}{x^2-4}\right)$

$x^2-2x+5$

Lets try integrals:

$\int_0^{\infty}e^{-x^2}\,dx=\frac{\sqrt{\pi}}{2}$

$\int_a^b f(x)\,dx=F(b)-F(a)$

(Wondering)

It only works for little things. Try a fraction.

$\frac{11}{34}$

$\frac{\pi}{2}$

$\frac{1}{x+1}$

$\frac{3}{4}x$

yea...it only works for the basic stuff....nothing complicated... (Wondering)

You're right. How strange, isn't?
