Thread: Adding new lines

Simple question, I suppose, but still learning:

If I have several consecutive lines of Latex I want to post - say I'm solving an equation step-by-step - do I have to open and close the math tags on each line? The PDF posted for instructions says \\ inserts a blank line, but I can't get that to work. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice to be able to just have a single opening and a single closing math tag instead of a set every line.

There is a rather limited number of characters that you can put between the
math tags, so if you have many lines it is best to put tags around each line
separately.
