    test ...

    $\begin{vmatrix}
    i & j & k\\
    0 & 2 &-2 \\
    4 & -1 & 0

    just seeing if vmatrix made a difference over matrix. Apparently not.

    Are you having problems or just testing code?

    There's always pmatrix:
    \begin{pmatrix} i & j & k \\ 0 & 2 &-2 \\ 4 & -1 & 0 \end{pmatrix}
    or bmatrix:
    \begin{bmatrix} i & j & k \\ 0 & 2 &-2 \\ 4 & -1 & 0 \end{bmatrix}
    or Bmatrix:
    \begin{Bmatrix} i & j & k \\ 0 & 2 &-2 \\ 4 & -1 & 0 \end{Bmatrix}
    or even smallmatrix (for which you must provide your own delimiters):
    \left( \begin{smallmatrix} i & j & k \\ 0 & 2 &-2 \\ 4 & -1 & 0 \end{smallmatrix} \right)

    Probably a simple question. When I type upper case letters in LaTex they (sometimes) change back to lower case. Can someone help?

    I don't think I've had upper case letters change to lower case ... can you type out an example so one can use "quote" to look at your format?

    I've had this happen before as well.

    At one point the server that the \$ delimiter uses would take

    $ABC$ and not only interpret it as $abc$ but would even edit the source text to lower case.

    As you can see it's not happening now and was probably an error on the server side.

    Yes, that's what happened then. I typed it with a capital A but it has turned into a lower a. And the source text has changed.
    I'll do it again
     A = 0 with spaces
    A=0 without spaces

    a = 2 tried changing it to A=2 ... changed back to lower case with tex tags ... first time I've seen that.

    $A=2$ ... with \$ tags, no change (yet)
