# Thread: Image in a post

1. ## Image in a post

I notice that in some posts on Linear and Abstract Algebra there is sometimes an image posted in the middle of the text. This also occurs in the algebra solutions posted on Project Crazy project - for example see

Schanuel’s Lemma « Project Crazy Project

(This example seems to be a PNG image)

I know how to upload a pdf image to MHF but how do you arrange to have a small image in the text of a post - would be really helpful for the commutative diagrams of groups that you get in exact sequences and homology.

I am also looking for help in how to scan and reduce the size of an image as that seems to be part of what is done

Is what is required a copy and paste operation?

Peter

EDIT - PS

I have now made a JPEG image of page 403 of Dummit and Foote and I have selected the commutative diagram of groups in Exercise 1 and created a small PNG image - I then used the "insert image" icon to upload a copy of the diagram as a PNG image. However the image did not display as open in the post but only as a file to be opened. I wish to have the actal diagram displayed without readers having to open a file.

see my post "Test only - please ignore"

so a key question is - how do you get the image dispayed in the post?

You can force the images to display by selecting manage attachments, then right click on the attachment and select copy image url. Now return to the post editor and select insert image and past the url into the box.

But that should not be necessary as with the below image (just a random image off of my hard drive, the first that was found), I just had to attach it to display. Check that you have the display images/attachmets (or whatever) option checked in your profile.

I've experienced the same problem, and do not find an option anywhere in my settings to display images/attachments. Where exactly is this option?

5. ## Re: Image in a post

Do you mean in Thread Display Options?

Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)

I have 'Show Images' on, but do not get the easy display behaviour you predict.

Still having difficulties

Peter

6. ## Re: Image in a post

I prepared a new post - see Test Only 2 - Image displayed in post

(I am using a MAC)

I used insert an image to upload the image Comm Grp 2.png

I then clicked on Manage attachments and then on the title of the image and selected 'Copy Image Location'

I then returned to the post editor and selected 'insert image' and pasted the url (location) into the box.

The result was that the title of the image came up in the top lefty hand of the post as you can see

Please note that I have show images on

Are you able to help further?

[img]23260[/img]

testing...

It seems to work for me if I upload the pic as as attachment, then change the tags to IMG. (which displays in my post...annoying ) There must be a better way.

Hi MarkFL2,

How did you manage to get the image to display?

Peter

9. ## Re: Image in a post

I certainly agre that there must be an easier way

Can anyone help in this matter

Peter

10. ## Re: Image in a post

Let me try this:

11. ## Re: Image in a post

$\displaystyle [COLOR=rgb(13.000000%, 30.000000%, 75.000000%)]x^2\sqrt{x}$[/COLOR]

12. ## Re: Image in a post

If you join a free photo sharing site such as "photo bucket" there is an option to create a thumbnail link, which I believe you paste into your post. Of course you have to upload the picture first. I did it once with some hand-written notes. I would guess that if MHF doesn't have an option "create a thumbnail link" it can't be done.
