We usually use \mathcal{L} (rendered http://latex.codecogs.com/png.latex?\mathcal{L}) to denote the Laplace Transform. Similarly, \mathcal{L}^{-1} (rendered http://latex.codecogs.com/png.latex?\mathcal{L}^{-1}) is used to denote the Inverse Laplace transform.

So for example,

http://latex.codecogs.com/png.latex?...\dfrac{1}{s-a}

and

http://latex.codecogs.com/png.latex?...ght\} = e^{at}

I hope this helps!

P.S.: Since LaTeX on MHF isn't working properly, we've come up with an alternative way to have the images rendered. So see this to find out more. - April 21st 2011, 11:32 PMProve It
\mathcal{L} gives the squiggly L.

So \mathcal{L}^{-1} gives the "inverse" squiggly L.
