how to I get an x with an arrow above it e.g. $x^{\rightarrow}$ but with the x actually above it.

How do I get an x with an arrow above it?

As Opalg suggested, we can use \vec v: . $\vec v$

For larger expressions, we can use \overrightarrow{AB}: . $\overrightarrow{AB}$
