Whenever I hit the space bar many times to distance words or numbers, Latex always brings them back close together. How do I space them?

Whenever I hit the space bar many times to distance words or numbers, Latex always brings them back close together. How do I space them?

You might try these delimeters: \; or \:

Examples:

[tex]AB[/tex] = $\displaystyle AB$

[tex]A \; B[/tex] = $\displaystyle A \; B$

[tex]A \: B[/tex] = $\displaystyle A \: B$

[tex]A \:\:\:\: B[/tex] = $\displaystyle A \:\:\: B$
