Thread: Latex package help (.dtx)

Hi. I recently downloaded latex (Miktek 2.9 and TexnicCenter) to write my dissertation, and successfully loaded the amsmath package, but now I need to use the mathtools package (can be downloaded here). It says "Running TeX on each dtx file extracts the runtime files." but I can't understand how to do this... Any ideas?

I can't try this now, but here is the basic idea. Open the command-line shell (click the Start button, type "cmd"), navigate to the directory with the .dtx file (e.g., cd "C:\Users\Your Name\Documents\dissertation") and type "latex filename.dtx". If the program latex is not found, find out where the executable is and specify the full path (e.g., "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\bin\whatever\latex").

Should this not just load on demand (assuming you are connected to the internet)?
