Math Help - color wheel

    color wheel

    Hello,

    I was wondering if someone could help me to draw a picture similar to the one under "Visual encoding of complex numbers" at

    Domain coloring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    I don't need the very fancy style though, something like

    http://www.corel.com/img/content/produc ... _wheel.jpg

    is fine, however, I would like to put the same stuff at the axes.

    That second link is broken because of error in the way you inserted it.

    I would also place money on those diagrams having been produced by one or more of: Mathematica, Maple and Matlab rather than in LaTeX.

    Two things: if you click that box to the right of "Domain coloring plot of the function" and scroll down, it shows you the C++ code which is messy to follow but looks like he's doing more than Arg and Abs but rather some further processing of the arg and abs like 1+(1-arg)^3 and something like that. Also, you can start with RegionPlot in Mathematica:

    f[z_] := ((z^2 - 1)*(z - 2 - I)^2)/
    (z^2 + 2 + 2*I);
    RegionPlot[1 > 0, {x, -5, 5}, {y, -5, 5},
    ColorFunction -> Function[{x, y},
    Hue[Arg[f[x + I*y]],
    Abs[f[x + I*y]]]]]

    But this gives nothing like the plot in Wikipedia.
