# Thread: Amsmath & 2 thing

1. ## Amsmath & 2 thing

Hi,

1) I would like to use the amsmath package.
I am really having trouble with installing it.
What is the easiest way of doing it?
amsmath doesn't.

2) for example in the binomial distribution formula or pascalsches "dreieck", hope triangular is the english word, the you have this x over m or m under x. Hope you know what I mean.
What is correct latex expression? I have \over, which makes it a fraction.
That is, however, not what I mean

Thanks

2. ## amsmath

Hi sts,

1) which operating system do you use (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, ...) and which TeX distribution (MiKTeX, TeX Live, ...)? Ways of installation could be different.

2) Without amsmath you could use \atop like
Code:
\left(x\atop m\right)
With amsmath you could write
Code:
\binom{x}{m}

3. There's also the plain TeX \choose command: $${n \choose k}$$ gives ${n \choose k}$ .

4. ## Thanks and reply to OS question

[s.t.s:] The OS is windows XP and miktex is the latex version, I have got.

[s.t.s]: I will try. That will certainly look better than a fraction. Thanks

You could install it by the MiKTeX package manager: click Start/MiKTeX/Browse Packages and look for amsmath.

THAT SEEMS TO BE VERY HELPFUL.
