I am in a first year calculus course at a University, and we just moved into the Fourier series. It seem pretty heavy compared to what we have done up to this point, and I wonder if it is a bit odd to toss it out so early... What year do people typically learn this? We have not covered Taylor polynomials, or any sort of trigonometric series, so this is a pretty rough transition. Is it unusual for a first year calculus course to have this, or am I just out of it?
