# Math Help - How do I convert from euro/ton to usd/lb ?

1. ## How do I convert from euro/ton to usd/lb ?

Scenario Question.
So lets say I have a product coming in from a european country and the company is charging me 2450 euros for 1 ton of a product. The total that is ordered is 20.03 tons which makes the a total of 49073.50. The date that this product was ordered was 05/31/12, which makes the exchange rate $1.2362/euro . Could someone tell me how to convert 2450euro/ton to$/lb ?

Also I converted the 20.03 tons on google's converter and got the following: 20.03 short tons = 40 060 pounds
is this right?

2. ## Re: How do I convert from euro/ton to usd/lb ?

2450 Euro/ton= 2450 Euro/ton * 1.2362 dollars/euro= (2450* 1.2362) dollars/ton Do you see how the "Euros" canceled?

There are 2000 lb/ton so (1/2000) tons/lb.

(2450*1.2362) dollars/ton *(1/2000) tons/lb= (2450*1.2362)/2000 dollars/lb.

1. In Europe (perhaps even in Great Britain?) there is used the metric ton:

$1\ t = 1000\ kg$

2. According to my convertion table

$1\ lb = 0.4535924\ kg~\implies~1\ kg = 2.204622476\ lbs$

3. Therefore:

$\displaystyle{\frac{49073.50\ euro}{20.03\ t} = \frac{49073.50\ euro \cdot 1.2362\ \frac{\}{euro}}{20030\ kg \cdot 2.204622476\ \frac{lbs}{kg}}}$

4. As you can see the euros or kg respectively cancel out. Finally you'll get:

$\displaystyle{\frac{60,664.66\ \}{11,158.6\ lbs} = 1.3738\ \frac{\}{lb}}$
