# Find volume of cylindrical tank

Do not know geometry
Find the volume. Use 3.14 as pi

1. water storage tank is shaped like a circular cylinder with half of a sphere at each end. what is the volume of the tank if the cylindrical section is 100cm long with a 40cm diamerter. use 3.14 (pi) Round the answer to two decimal places

2. 15 foot ladder leans against the barn, the bolltom of the ladder is 7ft from the building. how high is the top of the ladder. round to 2 decimal places.

I can not get the hang of Geometry, I have never had the honor to have it in school

We have to solve for sections of the tank and then add the sections together. In this case it is easiest to think of the cylinder in 3 sections:

The half sphere at one end of the tank.
The cylinder in the middle of the tank
The half sphere at the other end of the tank.

since we have two half spheres we can further simplify the problem into only two sections:

1 full sphere + 1 cylinder

So we must solve the volume for a sphere with diameter 40cm and a cylinder with diameter 40cm and 100cm length.

Looking in your math book you will find the equation for the volume of a cylinder is:
$\displaystyle \pi * r^2 * L$ and the equation for the volume of a sphere is $\displaystyle \frac{4}{3} * \pi * r^3$

Further more radius = 1/2 * diameter.

You should now have enough information to solve this problem. Simply plug in values for pi and r and L and add the two volumes together.
