    A Hint needed...stuck

    Can't seem to work out this question.

    (x+3)^2 + 24^2 = (AC)^2

    AB, AC and BC are all tangents so

    AD = AE = x

    BD = BF = 3

    FC = EC = 24 - 3 = 21

    So AC = AE + EC = x + 21

    So equation becomes

    (x + 3)^2 + 24^2 = (x + 21)^2

    Can you solve it now?

    Thanks Glaysher, of course now that you have done it, I can.

    Mental Note..

    *Always check for tangents*
