I came up with this problem a couple days ago and am yet to find a solution. I'm not altogether sure if it is possible, any insight is much appreciated. The attached image provides a basic overview of the problem. a,b are known and the center line is level. The goal is to find phi.

What do you mean by "a and b are known?" If you are speaking of lengths, then this problem has no solution as we may set the two lines to be at any angle.
