Thread: How do you find the side length of a cube if you know the surface area?

Here is a problem on my homework that I'm stumped on.
This is a test review, so I'm more interested in how you can find the answer to a similar problem.

A cube has a surface area of 1,350 square inches.
a. What are the side lengths of this cube?

By the way can someone tell me the formula for the surface area of a cube? I know how to find the surface area but I don't know how you would write it exactly.

well a cube has 6 squared area on its surface
and each of it can be given as x^2. hence in a total there will be 6(x^2) total area surface of a cube.(where x = length of one side of the cube)

given in your question that the total area of that particular cube is 1350

hence from total surface area = 6(area of one square surface of a cube)
1350 = 6(x^2)
x^2 = 225
x = 15 inches
