    Triangle CGF

    See picture. Square ABCD has an area of 100 square feet; square BEFG has an area of 16 feet square feet. What is the area of triangle CGF?

    SET UP:

    A. Find side BC.

    B. Find side BG.

    C. Knowing A and B above leads to knowing DG.

    D. Use A = (bh/2)

    Correct?

    No. Find CG and FG.

    DG has nothing to do with triangle CGF.

    CG = 10 - 4 or 6

    FG = 4

    A = (1/2)(bh)

    A = (1/2)(6)(4)

    A = (1/2)(24)

    A = 12 feet^2
