# Thread: is this possible? angles and stuff

1. ## is this possible? angles and stuff So one of my friends sent me this thing today and I was able to figure out all the questions but 4 and 5. I know she's wrong for the other questions (all 3 I believe) but neither of us could figure out what the correct answers to 4 and 5 were. I don't think it's possible but I figure I'd let a bunch of other people much better at math than me try.

2. ## Re: is this possible? angles and stuff

Problem 5 says "find x" but where is x? There is no "x" in the stated conditions or in the picture given.

Also you say you are concerned about problem "4 and 5" but what you show are problems 5 and 6.

My bad I meant problem D and E from question 5. This is all the information for this problem; x is just a random number used in the equation to find the angles - it's not a specific angle or line or point or anything.

$\displaystyle \begin{array}{l} 8x + 2 &= 90\\ 6x &= 88\\ x &= 11 \end{array}$ so $\begin{array}{l} M(\angle 2)&=6(11)+2\\&=68 \end{array}$

There was a typo in the second line above.

$\displaystyle \begin{array}{l} 8x + 2 &= 90\\ 8x &= 88\\ x &= 11 \end{array}$ so $\begin{array}{l} M(\angle 2)&=6(11)+2\\&=68 \end{array}$

Plato's 1st typo this year?
