    Trapezoids

    ABEC and ABDC are trapezoids.
    AB//DC
    AC//BE
    |BDC|=4 unit square
    |BECD|=5 unit square
    Find area of ABC?

    Again, kastamonu, you already know you are to show
    some attempt or explain what you understand about it first.
    So go ahead and do that.

    You are just a member as I am. Then this is a site contributed by students.

    I don't know what to say. I just need a ratio. I will draw something and solve the question if I can.

    I need to find the area of CDE.
    If you don't like to help I don't want to disturb again. You just have to say that. You are always finding a pretext and wasting my tiime.

    Wrong, the help cannot even start until you have done your part.
    You are wasting our time by not doing your part
    of showing your attempts and explaining where
    you don't understand. Stop putting up problems without any work
    or comments about what you understand/know of
    the problem.

    kastamonu, I have to agree with greg. Help us help you. You clearly tried things when you attempted the problem. Tell us some things you tried that did not work. Tell us some progress you made, but you are not sure where to go from there. Did you figure out that two angles are equal? Tell us that. Did you figure out that there are similar triangles? Tell us that. This way, we do not have to duplicate your efforts! We will not be wasting our time trying the same techniques you already know did not pan out! Why are you trying to waste our time?
    Thanks from Plato

    Re: Trapezoids

    I didvided the figure into 6 parts. My aim is ABCE-BCE. This is what I thought. I know the area of BCE. I am looking for a ratio between sides.

    @kastamonu. I second all said above and move that you be banned if you do not comply.

    Moreover, you could learn to post readable diagrams.

    Re: Trapezoids

    Ofcourse you can ban me whenever you wish. You are using a nickname and insulting people. Your problem is not my diagrams. This is just an excuse.

    You can't talk like this face to face. But behind a keyboard it is easy. I just need help until June 11. After that date I will not be here. I told this before. I will get an operation on june 18. I also did whatever you told me. Maybe you are having fun by this way.

    There is no need to play the victim. Thank you for writing what you already tried and what you are trying to accomplish. That is all we asked.

    Re: Trapezoids

    In the question there is no ratio between sides. Areas are equal between parallel lines.

    Re: Trapezoids

    CD meets BE at F

    AC = BF = a
    BE = b

    We let h and k be the distances from C and D to the side BE

    4 = area BCF - area BDF = 1/2 (h - k) a

    Use the proportion

    \frac{k}{b-a}=\frac{h}{b}
