I'm really having a hard time cracking this one. If any of you could show me the first step or point me in the right direction, i'd REALLY appreciate it.

Circumference of stitching = S = 2x + 2y + π x
Now S = 100 Thus 2x + 2y + π x = 100 that gives y = 50 – x - π/2 x
Area A = 2xy – + 1/2 π x^2 where y = 50 – x - π/2 x
Thanks for the help, mate!
But could you explain how you got there?
Nevermind, I see it now!
I would just like to raise a concern in that how awful the clarity of worded problems are becoming nowadays (this one just adds to all the others I've seen). Should it not read perimeter of stitching?
However, this may be HenryMerrild's translation of the problem from a Norwegian original.
