Hey guys,

I'm really having a hard time cracking this one. If any of you could show me the first step or point me in the right direction, i'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you!

Circumference of stitching = S = 2x + 2y + π x

Now S = 100 Thus 2x + 2y + π x = 100 that gives y = 50 – x - π/2 x

Area A = 2xy – + 1/2 π x^2 where y = 50 – x - π/2 x - February 16th 2013, 05:58 AMHenryMerrildRe: Area as a function (low level math)
Thanks for the help, mate!

But could you explain how you got there? :) - February 16th 2013, 06:15 AMHenryMerrildRe: Area as a function (low level math)
Nevermind, I see it now!

I would just like to raise a concern in that how awful the clarity of worded problems are becoming nowadays (this one just adds to all the others I've seen). Should it not read perimeter of stitching?

However, this may be HenryMerrild's translation of the problem from a Norwegian original.
