Actually, it is impossible to answer that without more information. If y in degrees, radians, grads, or any of several other ways of measuring angles.

To do, take you calculators, make sure it is in "degree", "radian", or "grad" mode (Every calculator I have seen has "degree" and "radian" mode, some have "grad". I have never seen one with other modes.) Then use whatever pattern is correct to find the inverse function to tangent of 44 degrees.

Using the on-screen calculator that comes with "Windows", assuming y is in radians, click on the little "radians" radio button, enter "44", then click on the "INV" button (for the inverse function). The button that, before, said "tan" now says " $tan^{-1}$". Click on that.
