Thread: Name that solid...

I'm trying to find a word, to describe a pear-shaped or apple-shaped, etc. hollow shell. If you took an apple, cut off 1/2" from its top and bottom and then hollowed it out until its wall thickness was only 1/4", what would you call the shape of the remaining apple ? I'd like to be more precise than just saying a shell.

a sphere maybe?

Its like, and onion shell, but the exterior wall is not symmetrical in 3D. A section of a hollow sphere can be described as an onion shell, but what if its not spherical ?
