can anybody help me understand the problem... I can visualize how it looks like and how to get the ratio of the area

What is the formula for the area of a triangle and a rectangle?

Hint: consider that the h in 1/2*b*1.25*h for the triangle is that area whereas b*h is the area of the rectangle.

A=1/2 *b* (0.25h +h)

For triangle

A=b*h

I could not give the numeral value... I'm stuck how is it done?

According to the book I've read... It is 5:8.

The ratio of the area of the triangle to that of the rectangle is:

$\displaystyle \frac{1}{2}b\cdot\frac{5}{4}h:bh$

$\displaystyle \frac{5}{8}:1$

$\displaystyle 5:8$
