# Thread: equation of the circle

1. ## equation of the circle

Find the equation of a circle in radius center form with
center at (-3,-5) and tangent to the y- axis.

im so confused with how the problem has stated on the centers. i can hardly understand the problem. please help.

Thank you

2. ## Re: equation of the circle

$(x-h)^2+(y-k)^2 = r^2$

where the circle is centered at $(h,k)$ and $r$ is the radius.

now ... what is the distance from (-3,-5) to the y-axis?

3. ## Re: equation of the circle

i got it...

(x + 3)^2 + (y + 5) = 9

thanks
