Just wanted to make sure I am doing this correctly, calculating sq footage of a one story building. I wanted to make sure I am doing it correctly

What is the correct geometry term for calculating area based of squares/rectangles in this manner?

Your working looks fine. And I think "mensuration" is the word you are looking for.

Or take the full rectangle: 92(40) = 3680
Subtract the 3 "missing" rectangles: 20(16) + 16(8) + 20(16) = 768
3680 - 768 = 2912
