    a number of semicircles

    need help in the below question .Thanks

    The figure shows a number of semicircles, with the horizontal diameter of the circle being cut into three equal lengths. If the area of the circle is 6 cm2, what is the area of theshaded part?

    In the left picture, the horizontal diameter does not appear to be divided in three equal parts. Do you mean something more like on the right? If so, find the radius of the large circle and of all semicircles and add/subtract the areas. It should be pretty straightforward.

    Area of circle =6 cm^2
    r = rad 6/pi = k a constant
    Expess all areas in terms of k and pi.Conpare this to total circle area in same terms.Answer will be a simple fraction of 6
