1. ## geometry peoplem 2 right triangles overlap and i need to find the intersecting |

Here is a picture and all information is included i dont care if someone solves or just tells me how it is done i just need help i started withe the Pythagorean theorem but that didnt help

2. ## Re: geometry peoplem 2 right triangles overlap and i need to find the intersecting |

Since BCD is similar to EBF: x/y = 100/320

Since ABD is similar to EFD and DF = 320-y: x/(320-y) = 210/320

That's plenty to solve for x and y.

3. ## Re: geometry peoplem 2 right triangles overlap and i need to find the intersecting |

hint: there are two pairs of similar triangles here:

BEF is similar to BCD
EFD is similar to ABD

do u know how to solve this because i still need help

6. ## Re: geometry peoplem 2 right triangles overlap and i need to find the intersecting |

similar to what wilmer said:

BEF is similar to BCD, so
$\frac{X}{Y} = \frac{100}{320}$

$X = \frac{100y}{320}$

ABD is similar to EFD, so
$\frac{210}{320} = \frac{X}{320-Y}$

$\frac{210 \times(320-Y)}{320} = X$

You have a pair of simulaneous equations to solve.
$\frac{210 \times(320-Y)}{320} = \frac{100y}{320}$

solve for Y (gives about 216.774)
