1. ## trapezoids

i cant get this problem. i need some help like in a major way.

so here is the problem...how do i get this started? what are the trapezoid rules?

2. ## Re: trapezoids

Why are you calling this a trapezoid AND a parallelogram?

Your wording refers to the parallelogram as ABCD but diagram shows ABDF; please clarify...

3. ## Re: trapezoids

Actually I think it question is worded quite clearly.
Here is some notation to add in the discussion.
Let $\{H\}=\overline{GC}\cap\overline{AE}$
For lengths of line segments let $AE=\text{ the length of }\overline{AE}$.
Now $\text{the area of }\Delta AGH=(0.5)(GH)(HA)$.
The area of the trapezoid $\square EHCD=(0.5)[ED+CH](HE)$.

ok why did you multiply by HE for the area of the trapezoid?

Do you know how to determine the area of a trapezoid?
If not, look it up.

6. ## Re: trapezoids

looking it up now...

7. ## Re: trapezoids

ok A = a(B1 + B2)/2
