Model of Shell Growth
Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if someone can help me solve this geometry problem. Should the total of all the angles = 360o?

Question: A model of how a shell grows can be made using enlarged copies of the same triangle.

Here is a picture of a model.

What is the value of x in degrees?

(a) 53o (b) 138o (c) 143o (d)153o (e) 222o

The six triangles are similar, therefore their respective angles are congruent. The six angles with common vertex are congruent = 37 deg. (180-90-53 = 37)
x = 360 - 37*6 = 138
