# Math Help - Geometry challenge question (spherical cone)

1. ## Geometry challenge question (spherical cone)

Hello ! I am working on this problem for about an hour now. I have researched for the formulas, only to find out that there is no formula for this given only 2 radii.

Find the volume of a spherical cone in a sphere of radius 17 cm. if the radius of its zone is 8 cm.

Thank you !

2. Hint:
Volume of spherical cone =2/3piR^2h

1. To calculate the volume of a cone you must know the length of the radius of the base circle and the length of the height of the cone.

2. Draw a sketch of the situation.

3. Let r denote the radius of the base cicle of the cone, R the radius of the sphere and h the height of the cone. Then

$r^2 + x^2 = R^2$

and

$h = R+x$
